Kip Stephen Thorne (born June 1, 1940) is an American theoretical physicist known for his contributions in gravitational physics and astrophysics. Along with Rainer Weiss and Barry C. Barish , he was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves .
Kip Thorne is an American physicist who contributed to the development of the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves. He also consulted for the film Interstellar and has worked at Caltech and other universities.

3 de oct. de 2017 · Kip Thorne, a former postdoc at Princeton and a professor at Caltech, is one of the three recipients of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), which detected the first direct observation of gravitational waves from two black holes colliding. Thorne, who earned his Ph.D. in physics from Princeton in 1965, is known for his research on black holes and his textbook "Gravitation".
